Bullshit. I don't believe it is either widespread or rampant, whatever the
hell that means to begin with. Here's what I have seen since the 1970's (and it preceded that, all the way back to the Whiskey Rebellion and the First Great Awakening), is a backlash narrative that says the Founders were infallible, inspired by God, that they founded a Christian nation, a new Israel. That it has all been sweetness until the libs started taking God out of the classroom. And all the while what they really mean is since the government started integrating schools and society.
I grew up in Alabama. I was taught how brave and Godly the Confederates were and had at least one teacher terrified of the evils of interracial marriage. Hell, I was long out of school before I learned about the Green Guide, sundown laws, the race massacres in Tulsa, in Rosewood, FL, or even the lynching of Italians in New Orleans or the widespread discrimination against the Irish in New York . Our country is checkered and diverse. It makes sense to teach the whole truth! It won't warp our kids little minds. It will set them free to solve the problem.
People in power don't want it solved.
